There will be two Parent/Teacher conference days this semester. Sign up sheets for these dates will be outside the classroom about a week before:
- MWF classes will be Friday January 29th
- Tu/Th classes will be Thursday March 24th
There is no school the day of the conferences, though you can arrange to have someone watch your child in the classroom while we meet. There are no surprises at this meeting, it is simply a checking in time for parents and Michele and I. They last about 15 minutes.
As winter approaches, we still try to go out each day. Please dress your children for the cold weather. If your child is wearing a skirt or dress feel free to send extra pants to put on underneath.
With the children we chant “Jackets, Hats then Mittens” as they learn what clothing items to put on first. And Carole chants “Mittens not gloves PLEASE!” Even if your child can get their own gloves on it doesn’t always work smoothly and we all end up sweating more if there are gloves. If your child argues in the morning have them in gloves but please, oh PLEASE, send mittens for the school day. Thanks!
November is here and we are enjoying the fall weather! I want to start by thanking all those involved in the yard sale. It is always so amazing to me when our community starts coming together to support the school. Also to those who helped out with the Open House, ESNS and the children benefit from all of your involvement.
Each class is growing so much. The MWF class is exploring the classroom and new relationships as the new children and the returning children get to know each other. The Tues/Thurs class has grown a tremendous amount. Each day we discover new things about each child and with that and their discoveries about how school works and our daily routines we are growing into an enthusiastic and fun loving group of children.
During the month of November we will be celebrating the Earth’s harvest at school. At ESNS we have chosen to celebrate a Harvest Feast instead of Thanksgiving because harvest is the basis for many celebrations around the world. The children cook all month in preparation for the Feast. We freeze all of the food they cook and then we invite you and your family to join us at 11:30 for our Feast on November 24th or 25th. This is a time when the children really begin to feel ownership of the school and their community. They feel great pride in the Feast they create.
The Feast also incorporates all the learning areas. We will learn Math while measuring the food. Science while we see the transformation of the foods, Literacy, Language and Vocabulary as we talk about the foods and the recipes. We try to cook with foods traditionally harvested in New England which incorporates Social Studies along with working in small groups, cooperating and taking turns. We even sing about it all!
As always we are here to answer any questions or concerns you may have. Thanks Carole
Our annual Fall Open House for prospective families will be held October 24, 2015 from 10;00am to 12:30pm. Bring the prospective children and your questions, and come see the space and meet our friendly teachers as well as some of the current parents.
ESNS Families will come together starting at 5pm, September 16, at Gladys Potter Park (Humboldt Park). Click here for a Google Map.
Bring your dinner and meet the other kids and families in the community. A great way to get to know your child's new school friends.
If you like our page on Facebook, you will be able to subscribe to any Event that we create there. Check it out!
What an amazing and wonderful event we had last Saturday! Thank you so much to everyone who attended and supported our silent auction this year! It was a huge success! We couldn't have done it without the tireless efforts of our dedicated parent community and the generous support of our wonderful donors. Thank you so much to each and every one of you for supporting our school, our community, and our children!
